Distell Inter Hotel Challenge Orientation Day in Cape Town

The Distell Inter Hotel Challenge is a major event in the hospitality trade in South Africa and it gets bigger and better every year. Showcook stalwarts Annette Kesler and Chania Morritt-Smith continue to take this prestigious competitions to new levels.  
Candidate Wine Stewards and young Chefs are put forward by their hotels and this year there are 17 participating hotels just in the Cape!  This is a national competition and encompasses hotels from Gauteng and KZN.
Each hotel is matched with a Distell Wine and Spirit brand, and are also given product from various sustainable farming businesses to use in their preparations.
The Cape's Orientation day saw presentations from SA Pork Producers (the chef's meat must be pork this year), Rio Largo Olive Oil, BioWheat, Vickie de Beer, Denny Mushroom, Lancewood Cheese, Cape Wine Academy, Sommeliers Academy and Capsicum Culinary Studio.
We wish all the contestants the very best for this year's competition - the cook-offs and tests being done in June and awards in August at the hospitality industry's glittering Oscars Awards ceremony!
The prizes are massively substantial, with overseas trips and internships at Restaurant Mosaic with award-winning Best Female Chef in the world - Chantel Dartnall.
