Classic wineries in Robertson to visit

Driving through Robertson early in the morning means I need my coffee, so a stop at Strictly Coffee is compulsory!  Lots to enjoy there and their croissants are divine!

If you are planning a trip to Robertson soon - here are a few tips to ensure you really enjoy your visit. It is almost time for the Wacky Weekend in the first weekend in June so either go before then if you like calm and quiet, or go then if you like bustling and fun!

Excelsior must be one of the most globally prolific South African brands, as they can be found almost anywhere in the USA. A friend just told me he can find it at their local Trader Joe's in Boston - but if you are not living in the USA, do visit them at their quaint tasting room on the dam, where you can also try your hand at wine-blending and then finish off the day with lunch at Graze, right next door. A lovely spot to visit with kids for them to run around, but do watch them close to the water.

Shiraz is of course a signature variety at Zandvliet - so you can enjoy their classic one and the very specific limey Shiraz - their Kalkveld Shiraz. Zandvliet was purchased by Clemengold a few years back and they have done a great job with a revamp with a new tasting lounge, underground art gallery in their old muscat cellar and wine-blending experience in the cellar.
I was very taken with one of the artists currently on display - Juanette Menderoi - very van Gogh style in fact which I love.

Wine on the River is one of the Robertson signature events held in the spring - and Viljoensdrift are the iconic Ón the River' brand in fact, so enjoy some sundowners there and just chill.
