Dr Christo Wiese, owner of the beautiful Lourensford Wine Estate - launched their enormous Solar installation yesterday. MEC for Economic Opportunities for the Western Cape was there to give his official stamp of approval. Lourensford is one of only a few wineries who have made a huge (R7m+) commitment to sustainablity and we applaud them for it. The huge cellar roof is covered with 2000 solar panels with a capacity of 500 kWp (kilo Watt peak), which will generate approximately 750 MWh (Mega Watt hours) of energy in the first year of operation. This will save 750 tonnes of coal per year - a great investment in sustainability.
