Sommeliers Selection First Awards

A total change of how wines are graded/awarded has recently been done by the Sommelier Association of South Africa. The awards were handed out at a quietish award ceremony at Neil Grant's new restaurant, Open Door at Constantia Uitsig. The format of the awards is that the Somms decide up front what types of categories there are - and they liken them to a wine list. Hence House Wine, Fresh & Fruity, Stickys and more. So producers enter their wines according to these categories, but apparently some needed to be shifted around a little after submission. Some categories got many wines awarded and others not at all. Interesting way to do it.
