Elim Wine Festival - an evening with winemakers & media

Elim is a good 2.5 hour drive Cape Town. Until recently it was only accessible on a really dusty dirt road, but the new improved tar road makes it seem considerably closer. Sadly tar roads also mean speeding, and we had more than one bird with a sore head who was expecting us to come at it at a slower pace. The arty Baardskeersbos (aka B-Bos) used to be really tucked away and now you almost rush through without a blink. We stayed at Doornbosch Guest farm - which has a few large villas with guest suites and a view across the fynbos. Dinner was at Black Oystercatcher and we really were treated to oysters & bubblies and a delicious dinner. The MCC from Dabar I thought tasted like a day at the sea, flavours of salty crustiness which I loved. Massive great rump steaks spent a while on the fire while we mingled and met the varied Elim producers: Jean Daneel, Black Oystercatcher, Strandveld Vineyards, Dabar, The Berrio, Sijnn, Ghost Corner, Giant Periwinkle and The Drift. What a beautiful calm evening before the storm set in that night, which resulted in creaking shutters and doors and lashing rain, making our snuggly bed and duvet even more welcome!
