The 2016 Cape Legends Interhotel Challenge is in its 4th year and this year there are a number of cook-offs and exams/judging that take place around the country. The difference this year is that there are no regional finals but the judges remain the same - this year: legendary sommelier Germain Lehodey - from Mosaic Restaurant in Pretoria, Sandy Harper (Cape Wine Master) and Higgo Jacobs - Chairman of SASA (South African Sommelier Association). The judges have been travelling around the country testing the young wine steward candidates and it seems there is stiff competition. I attended the Cape Town leg (just one day of the 2) and here are some of the pics of the process and candidates. There are 23 hotels participating and each has one young chef and one wine steward competing. The finalists and winners will be announced at the gala dinner on 29th July at the Belmond Mount Nelson. We wait in anticipation!
