Joseph Dhafana now also has the SASA Foundational Sommellerie Accreditation under his belt which is the top Sommelier certificate available in South Africa before the ASI qualification. He is only the 7th recipient of this Certificate. His rise through the wine ranks has been rapid, so clearly his affinity with wine is intense. Joseph arrived in South Africa some 10 years back, coming from Zimbabwe with no wine background, and enjoyed his first wine in 2010, which tickled his palate enough to take his career from gardening into wine. The Swartland region has played a significant role in his wine world, as his time at the Black Sheep and tasting wine with Chris Mullineux were a turning point in his life. Joseph starting making wine in 2014, and his brand MOSI seems to be continually sold out, and I am looking forward to tasting it some time! He represented South Africa at the World Blind Wine Tasting Championships in France in 2015 and then in 2017 was in the first Zimbabwean team to participate in the World Champs and now in 2018 will represent Zimbabwe again in Oct.Joseph is the Sommelier at the award-winning and world-renowned La Colombe restaurant at Silvermist in Hout Bay, and proprietor Scot Kirton is duly very proud of his achievements. He is a keen student and he has set his sights on the UCT MBA, so watch this space.Photo Credit: Gavin Withers - The Wine Taster.
