Mensa Wines telling a great story

The world of wine is filled with brands trying hard to be noticed.  Mensa is really doing this differently. Mensa is a new brand launched by Overhex Wines International owned by Gerhard vd Wath, who likes to think out of the box.  I was a little confused as I thought the wines were linked to the high IQ group, but on attending the launch and learning more, discovered that it is in fact names after Gerhard's wife Emmerentia, aka Mensa!

Their wines were launched with an APP which, as far as I know, is a world first with an augmented reality story being told, the first AR in South Africa.

There are only 5 wines in the range, viz. a Chardonnay/Pinot Noir. a Sauvignon Blanc, a Shiraz/Malbec, a Cabernet Sauvignon and then a Pinot Grigio which is for the export marketing exclusively for now. My favourite was the Sauvignon Blanc - crisp but not acid.

The launch was hosted at Kloof Street House - with a strong link to books and book clubs, and the group attending the launch each received a lovely branded bag for our book, Shame on You, which had just been launched the previous week in Cape Town and author Amy Heydenrych was on hand so that we could go home with a signed copy!

The vibe & decor at Kloof Street House is very retro, laid back and feels like a library with all sorts of nooks and crannies. The food was to die for - delicious calamari, prawns, polenta, all sorts of delectable finger-licking delights.  I look forward to returning for a meal.

I have been using my Mensa book bag a lot when carting my books around and it is noticeable and attractive and I am really enjoying it.  The link between wine and books is strong and I am sure many book clubs (and we all know that this is a euphism for wine clubs) will be combining the two very well!
There are a number of attractive extras which go with the brand, like the beautiful branded box and also the book marks.  Well done to all at Overhex.
