Shiraz and venison - a great match with Bertus Basson & Edmund Terblanche

The Woordfees is a such a wonderful annual festival in Stellenbosch and the Agri Expo always make a great set of tastings available.  I wish I had more time to attend every event!

Having grown up in Caledon in a bilingual home, my Afrikaans is passable, so I was pleased to be able to keep up with the fabulous banter and information which Bertus peppered with us about the venison. He had selected cuts from Gemsbok, Springbok, Eland and Kudu and done them all sous-vide to keep things simple.  We then tasted through the wines - all from different climates - the Driehoek - up in the Cederberg and in fact made by David Nieuwoudt from Cederberg Winery, Allesverloren - the classic Riebeek West Shiraz by Danie Malan, of course the La Motte Pierneef Shiraz/Viognier - which in fact is sourced from down south at Elim and Walker Bay, and the Zandvliet Shiraz - from lime country in Robertson.
Of course taste is always personal and everyone had different ideas of what they liked, and that really is the point.

The presentation was hosted by Shiraz SA, of whom Edmund is the chairman.
