A visit to Creation Winery at the top of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley used to be an arduous trip up a long gravel road, but these days with the immaculate tarred road, it is a relatively quick drive up through the valley which is fast becoming known as the Home of Pinot Noir. Look out for their Pinot Noir Celebration held in January. I caught up with 2 of the dedicated Creation staff - Ashley Hwamiridza and Artwell Chatsika on a clear crisp winter day after admiring the interest art all around the winery - lovingly made by local artist Nanette Ranger. Her works grace the gardens at Creation, who offer a unique FynArts Story of Creation Wine and Food Pairing Menu. There was much excitement at Creation when I visited, as they had just been award the 3rd best South African Winery in the World’s Best Vineyard 2019 competition! Next time you are in the Hermanus area looking for whales, turn up at the Sandbaai traffic light - and keep going till you get to Creation!
