Praisy Dlamini is a self-confessed farmer, coming from the KZN sugar-cane farming community, so farming really is in her blood But wine-making is a just a slightly different kettle of fish! She was a CWG Protege years back and it gave her a solid foundation and now heads up Adama Wines, a full supply-chain offering. Bosman Family Vineyards, an historic farm in Wellington where the workers own a 26% share in the farming operation which is still the biggest transformation deal in the wine industry. But now a group of young professional women, some of whom started on the farm and qualified themselves in Vineyard Management, Winemaking, Quality Assurance, Accounts , Logistics and Human Resources have formed Adama Wines (Pty) Ltd with the product offering ranging from grape plantings to making high-end quality wines for supplying the market demand. Adama Wines launched in Paarl at the cool new Workshop 17 space owned by Dana Buys (Vrede en Lust), which is a shared workspace including board rooms, meeting spaces, a deli/bistro and more. Bosman was one of the first members, hence hosting the launch there. A feather in Adama Wines cap was having the new Western Cape Premier there, viz Alan Winde, who is a great supporter of agriculture and the wine industry, who made it very clear that he would certainly help a project like Adama Wines, which works as a #BEE project as well as having an all-female staff. The women all currently work at Bosman-Adama but slowly but surely as they build the new business, will move off into being entirely independent and self-sufficient.
