Vergelegen Garden Weekend 2022

Spring is in the air and all around local gardens are looking at their very best! This past weekend, on the Saturday, I explored Vergelegen Wine Estate's beautiful gardens, lawns, and creative spaces at the Vergelegen Garden Weekend 2022.

The day kicked off with a fascinating tree walk with Vergelegen’s head horticulturist and garden manager, Richard Arm. He showed us trees of significance, like the majestic Camphor Trees, the oldest oak tree in Southern Africa, and the Royal Oak. After the walk, we cooled off with flutes of refreshing Vergelgen MMV Cap Classique in the garden. This was followed by a garden tour of the Octagonal Garden with Chris Randlehoff, a horticulturalist who joined the Vergelegen team in March this year. He is responsible for taking care of and maximising the potential of the floral features, and the tour made it evident that he is the best possible person for the job!

Next, we had a light lunch at Café Fleur: A choice of Kingklip fish or vegetarian quiche paired with Vergelegen's Florence Rosé 2022. At the restaurant, we were surrounded by artwork and floral arrangements by local creatives. I ended off my day with a Garden Weekend Wine Tasting at the verandah of the Wine Tasting Centre, overlooking the estate's maze-like Sundial Garden.
