Lunch at Delheim Garden Restaurant

On a sunny spring day in October 2023, Delheim Wine Estate invited a couple of their media friends to join them for lunch at their charming Garden Restaurant. The occasion? The launch of their brand new summer menu! The new menu comprises of German-Dutch cuisine with a modern twist. Think meat and cheese platters, slow roasted lamb shank with red wine, beer-braised bratwurst, stroopwafels with ice cream...

We were joined by the Sperling family – matriarch Vera Sperling and her children, Nora Sperling Thiel and Victor Sperling – who shared stories of Delheim's earlier days. We learned, for example, that Delheim was the first wine farm in South Africa to serve food in 1976. They started serving cheese platters and bread with a hawker's licence, meaning they were only allowed to serve precooked food. So, the Delheim team made everything in the kitchen in the house beforehand.

Nowadays, the restaurant is one of the best restaurants in the Stellenbosch winelands. The Garden Restaurant is open 7 days a week for breakfast and lunch. Their opening hours are 09h00 - 17h00.
