The Nel family of Boplaas hosted a wine tasting and lunch in honour of their major milestone – 45 vintages of Carel Nel and 18 vintages of Margaux Nel – on Wednesday, 15 May 2024 at Jonkershuis at Groot Constantia, Cape Town. They invited a select group of journalists and industry professionals to celebrate this special occasion with them. Boplaas Family Vineyards is a six-generation family business specialising in wine production and distilling, situated in Calitzdorp in the Klein Karoo. The father-and-daughter team Carel and Margaux Nel is responsible for winemaking. The son, Daniel Nel, is the head distiller, while sister Rozanne is the marketing director. At the wine tasting, Carel and Margaux showcased Boplaas' range of Portuguese wines as well as their award-winning port-style wines. Daniel spoke about the brandies, gins and whiskies made at Boplaas and the inspiration behind them. The tasting was followed by lunch prepared by the Jonkershuis Eatery team, paired with Boplaas wines.
