Old Vine Tasting & Top 10 announcement at Ernie Els

The Old Vine Project is already 22 years old now, and has been a company for 8 years and growing all the time with 140 members currently. It has really come of age and with 4000+ hectares of vines qualifying for the heritage seal of the Old Vine Project - it is pretty impressive.
I was fortunate enough to attend a wonderful tasting this week of 40+ Old Vines at the glorious Ernie Els on a perfectly crisp sunny Spring afternoon.

Rosa Kruger has been the driving force behind this project  alongside Andre Morgenthal, and funded by the Rupert family.  Rosa was excited to announce that her proposal that vines over 35 qualify as OLD VINES was accepted by the OIV to be adopted across the world. We are proud to have our very own head of SAWIS - Yvette vd Merwe as the OIV President - the first time an African is taking on this role.

To celebrate the maturity of the Old Vines, Rosa asked WineMag to set up a TOP 10 Old Vine competition, and at the tasting at Ernie Els this week, we were fortunate enough to taste through 40 wines and then also celebrated the Top 10 wines making the inaugural top 10 list.
