Diemersdal Estate in Durbanville has just released the first South African wine to be fermented and matured in Wineglobe, a bulbous pure glass container designed for winemaking: Diemersdal The Globe Sauvignon Blanc 2023. The Diemersdal team launched this wine over an intimate lunch at the Louw family's house on the wine estate. After enjoying bubbly and snacks upon arrival, winemakers Thys Louw and Juandré Bruwer led us to the cellar, where they showed us the state-of-the-art Wineglobes. Ladine, Thys's wife, served a delicious three-course lunch. The kreef pasta as mains was definitely a highlight! Wines we enjoyed with lunch included The Globe Sauvignon Blanc 2023, Eight Rows Sauvignon Blanc 2023, and The Journal Sauvignon Blanc 2023. We also had a couple of vintage Sauvignon Blanc wines from the 1980s, plus a Le Petit Cheval Bordeaux Blanc wine from France. Photos: Danie Nel
