Salsify is the reigning Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant of the Year, located in Camps Bay, and recently secured its debut 88th position on the prestigious World's 50 Best Restaurants extended list (50-100). Oldenburg Vineyards from Stellenbosch hosted their trade tasting at Salsify, seriously elevating the entire experience, from service, decor, food to the delicate stemware. It felt like a stemware tasting! The Oldenburg team were very focused on sharing their wine journey with us, leaving Salsify to deal with all the rest. Winemaker Nic van Aarde is very enthusiastic about working at Oldenburg, as owner Adrian Vanderspuy built a new cellar from scratch and Nic just loved the opportunity of having the right tools at his disposal – and was like a kid in a candy store! The farm has certainly made great strides over the last 10 years, and I was particularly surprised that 2 of the wines we tasted, viz the Chardonnay and the Cabernet Sauvignon, were from vines only 4 and 5 years old! They were fresh, full-bodied and delicious. Warning if you are going to Salsify: Kloof Road from Kloof Nek down to Salsify is still closed, so the route is a tad circuitous all the way down to Camps Bay and then up again, but the stunning sea views make up for it.
