Pink berry Pinotage cocktails, roses a-blooming, classical music, and the beautiful Lanzerac property in Stellenbosch made for a stunning setting to launch the Lanzerac book, "Pinotage: The Lanzerac Story" on 30 October 2025. This was clearly a labour of love, with the GM Emile Langenhoven tearily introducing us to the project, conceived and beautifully executed by the Xpotential team. Congrats to Lourensia Parr (project manager), Gill D'achada (copywriter), Danielle Pepler (photographer), and Brittney Moolman (design and layout). And of course, the focus is on Pinotage, which is celebrating 100 years since its inception in 1925, by the acclaimed Izak Perold, the first professor of viticulture at Stellenbosch University. Perold was attempting to combine the best qualities of the robust Hermitage (aka Cinsault) with Pinot Noir, and over time, the variety has proved him right. And with Lanzerac having the first commercially released Pinotage in 1961, it makes sense to honour both Pinotage and Lanzerac in this beautiful book.Forever Lanzerac.
