Webersburg: A star reborn in the Golden Triangle

The influx of serious investment into the Cape Winelands is incredibly encouraging, and the latest news from Webersburg is particularly exciting. The Hanni family, renowned for their successful lodge ventures in the Kruger region, have now trained their sights on the Helderberg, aiming to transform this historical estate into a premier destination of choice.

Their vision is clear: to establish Webersburg as a beacon of luxury, offering five-star service, exquisite accommodation, curated activities, and a refined restaurant, all set within the timeless charm of its classically Cape Dutch surrounds. Naturally, top-class wines anchor the entire experience.

Situated in the Helderberg, right in the heart of the famed 'Golden Triangle', the revered home of South Africa’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon, Webersburg can lay claim to being one of the country's oldest farms. Originally established as Groenrivier in 1693, its history includes the construction of the first cellar back in 1786.

The beautifully and tastefully restored cellar now hosts their wine-tastings, offering a diverse and special selection. From their bright, fresh Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé to their heavier, structured reds, which are fittingly sampled in the atmospheric underground barrel cellar. Each tasting is elevated by delicious local cheeses and impeccably presented by their delightful sommelier and hospitality champion, Tendai.

The cellar has plenty of older wines, so if you are looking for a wine as a present for a 21st of 30th birthday - then look no further.  Their choices include the larger form bottles, but of course in limited quantities.

Suheena and I recently visited and were proudly taken through the elegantly decorated rooms by Savannah Hanni, the owner’s daughter, who embodies the family’s commitment to excellence.

The property exudes an immediate sense of calm and restful serenity. The more modern restaurant offers tranquil views overlooking the dam, where a flock of happy, snow-white ducks glide peacefully across the water. It’s a perfect blend of historic architecture and contemporary, gentle refinement.
