Arum launch at Boschendal - bringing Peter Tempelhoff to the winelands

It is not every day one gets an invite to an opening of a Peter Tempelhoff restaurant, so I was very excited to attend the opening of ARUM at Boschendal last week. Read more HERE

Summer has kicked in and a gorgeous broiling day in the winelands awaited us, so a chilled glass of Boschendal Cap Classique was very welcome, presented by none other than the energetic and recently crowned Relais & Chateaux Woman of the Year, Group Sommelier and  Service Director, Jennifer Hugé.
Bubbly in hand, we took a gentle stroll through the veggie gardens, nursery and forest, guided by the passionate David de Wet.

The gardens are massive and hot and I have renewed respect for farmers and gardeners!

The old 'Werf' building, built in 1812, has been totally transformed into 4 distinct spaces, from the bar area with its massive bone-inspired bar – a piece of functional artwork by artist Driaan Claasen, to the arched private dining room, with its arch being hand-woven just for this project.  Dealing with a heritage building has its challenges but the team has managed to create inspiring individual spaces without affecting the overall historical feel of the building.

Exec Chef, Travis Finch is in charge and we were treated to a delicious lunch which included Stracciatella with fire-roasted beetroot, my favourite. Travis is already using the garden in their farm-to-table approach, and Jennifer treated us to a garden infusion which was both fresh and warming.

Cocktails are clearly Jennifer's passion and the one I loved was a Margarita with a Mexican twist of chilli on the rim - delicious!
