This is the 19th year that ABSA is sponsoring the competition and the competition itself is now 20 years old. Beyer Truter recounted how he wrote out 120 letters in 1995 to send out to producers to get the Pinotage Association and Top 10 competition going. The awards were held in the very dramatic Cathedral Cellar at KWV and was historic as Rijk's in Tulbagh and Kanonkop in Stellenbosch both received their 10th award - quite an achievement. There were also a few newbies - with Ayama, Overhex, Flagstone making the top 10 too. ABSA have agreed to continue their sponsorship and are proud to be partners in this venture to raise the levels for Pinotage.
