As the winners of the Absa Top 10 Pinotage are announced at an intimate function with only producers, a handful of guests present and hundreds online, the importance of nurturing partnerships lingers in the air. Just over 24 years ago this prestigious competition started with a mere 35 entrants, today in-spite of the challenging start to 2020 - over 149 entries were received. This partnership between Absa and the Pinotage Association has been fostered to enable the excellence and growth of this uniquely South African cultivar. The progress the industry has made over the years is a testament to the success of wine being synonymous with our country. South Africa produces some of the best wines in the world and it gets the necessary publicity on the international front, which helps with the brand of South Africa. To appreciate the evolution of wine styles in terms of wines that conform to the classics of the world and to make this possible, it is about partnerships and consistency of an association that has a vision.
