Vergenoegd Löw launches 'Reds, Racehorses and Runner Ducks' book

Vergenoegd Löw The Wine Estate is one of the oldest wineries in South Africa, and it is wonderful to see its heritage being restored. Kudos to the new owner, Dr Peter Löw, who has invested millions in its restoration. Painstakingly managed by the very patient Corius Visser (GM) and his team, the wine estate is slowly but surely returning to its former glory, with great attention to detail.

Dr Löw clearly has heritage as a cornerstone of his approach, as he also owns many old buildings across Europe, and established the European Heritage Project to manage the re-awakening of all these properties

I attended the launch of the new book Reds, Racehorses and Runner Ducks, curated by Pieter Cronje. Sadly Pieter passed away just before the launch, and he was honoured at the launch dinner held at Clara's Barn at Vergenoegd Löw this week. Pieter clearly loved the farm, and his passion and attention to detail are well represented in the book, authored by the historian Joanne Gibson, who, on the day of the launch, also won the prestigious Jancis Robinson's 2023 Wine Writer of the Year award!

Chef Bertus Basson put on a delicious repast at Clara's Barn, named in honour of Dr Löw's wife.
