SAWi seems relatively unknown to many people in the industry to whom I speak. However, their aggregated calculation to arrive at the top performing producers makes absolute sense. They condense results from 84 multinational competitions, reviews and listings, and express this as a single number out of 100. So if you are featured as a TOP winery in their awards - then you really have achieved across many platforms and deserve serious recognition. We attended the pre-awards dinner at the most stunning Grootbos last Friday night - and were treated to an 8-course food & wine pairing as well as a night in one of their private lodges. If you can afford it - this is really a stunning getaway with a view across Walker Bay (from Gansbaai) towards Hermanus. We were devastated to have to leave so very early the next morning for other commitments.
