Wine Label Design Awards 2016

The 2nd annual Wine Label Design Awards were held last night at the AVA Gallery in Cape Town, sponsored by Rotolabel and run by Christian Eedes (WineMag). Out of a possible 8000 skus, there were only 50 entries which is a shame as design is such an integral part of wine. Winemakers and viticulturists spend many resources getting the right wine in the bottle. South African wines are experiencing a major upswing in quality with accolades from international influencers pouring in, but it seems that label and general design is not keeping up with this upward trend in wine quality. Gold was awarded to only 2 wine labels - Over R500 to The Garland from Simonsig (Anthony Lane Design), and between R80 & R500 - to Saboteur from Luddite (Whitespace Creative) - with NO Grand Prix - so there is certainly room for improvement on the design side.
