Celebrating 100 years at Backsberg

What an honour to be invited to celebrate the Backsberg centenary with Simon Back and his team. There is a new restaurant just opened on the farm with a new chef Wilhelm Maree - who did a sterling job with our delicious and very filling lunch. Michael Fridjhon recounted tales of his time with Sydney Back - grandfather to Simon - who was core to the development of the wine industry in South Africa. What a humble and hard-working man Sydney was, and his son Michael quietly took on the farm and turned it into its current carbon-neutral position and constantly working on new ways to ensure that their footprint on the earth is minimal. We were all very touched by Michael Fridjhon's tributes to Sydney and the family.
