Only 6 vintages of Magna Carta ever from Steenberg

South African wines are certainly upping their prices.  Steenberg launched their 2015 Magna Carta - a white blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon - which is priced at R525 from the cellar, as well as their new Cap Classique - the Lady R MCC 2011 - which sells at R435. The Magna Carta is only bottled in years when they feel it is of the right quality, and we had an opportunity to taste through the various vintages - from 2007 - to 2015 - only 6 vintages bottles thus far. The colour of the 2015 was light and clear, compared to all the others which had aged to a golden yellow; The 2015 is still very young and bright - it is fresh and crisp and delicious and will age well for a few years still; Catharinas was home to the event - for a long lunch of Magna Carta wines paired with the various new creations by their new chef Archie Maclean; I really enjoyed his unusual cauliflower ice cream!
