Wacky Wine Weekend - Media Visit

Heading off to Robertson with the Wacky Wine media group was a daunting thought at first but I soon realized we all share the same respect for the hands that make the liquid we all love so much.

Starting at Bemind in McGregor, Ilse Schutte shared each wine story, the details of harvest and her family’s involvement.
Further up the road from McGregor we were welcomed at Lord's Wines, owned by the Oosthuizen family, with refreshing bubbly, of which the maiden harvest was in 2006. Watching the family gearing up for Wacky Wine, one realizes keeping the wine dream alive takes plenty of hard work with all hands on deck!

Tanagra wine and grappa was next on our agenda and I loved every minute of tasting, discussing and sipping through all the wines made by local winemaker Lourens van der Westhuizen and the grappa made by Robert and Anette Rosenbach.
After this tough day Jan Harmsgat Country House's luxurious rooms offered some much needed TLC.

The next morning we headed off to Kleinhoekkloof for handmade charcuterie and wine pairing by owner Theunis de Jongh.   And then the energy bomb hit at Marbrin Olive Farm with host and owners, Clive and Briony, where I succumbed to purchasing the Truffle oil which is heavenly and leaves one close to speechless.

We ended our two day journey with a humble man, Newald Marais, owner and winemaker of Kranskop, where we tasted through some of his 2017 wines still in the tank.  Look out for his barrel fermented Chardonnay!
