#DrinkChenin with Ina Smith, Sumi Gous & Ghenwa Steingaszner

Ina Smith, the queen of the Chenin Blanc Association of South Africa, hosted a delightful and personal evening at the creative studio of Sumi Gous (SumiCreative) down at Paardevlei in Somerset West on #DrinkChenin Day - Sat 17th June, 2017.  Sumi's bright, colourful and inspiring artwork and designs surrounded us and I was surprised to hear that she does a lot of her work on a phone and then projects it onto a screen and then works from that!

Ina hauled out some of the best Chenins of South Africa from her personal cellar, and paired them with well-known Lebanese Chef Ghenwa Steingaszner's delicious, colourful and beautiful repast.
It was a very intimate affair, with Ghenwa's talented daughter and singer Dara Steingaszner entertaining us with her bluesy voice and introduced us to her original song she had just written. Look out for her video on YouTube - under Dara Under the Tree.

We were welcomed by delicious Chenin bubblies, the Perdeberg and Ken Forrester's Sparklehorse's MCC - whose fun label was designed by Sumi Gous.
We were fortunate to enjoy a host of top top Chenins, from the Eden (Raats), Kleine Zalze, DeMorgenzon, De Trafford, Perdeberg Dry Land Collection, CWG chenin of Sebastian Beaumont, Uitkyk, Botanica, to Villa Esposto, a beautiful old vine chenin from Klawer. We ended off with a few sweeties, including a decanted magnum of 2005 Joostenburg NLH - which matched the very delicious sweet baklava made by Ghenwa.

Thanks to everyone, especially Ina for the wonderful evening!
We did #DrinkChenin proud, I'd say!
