Celebrate Pinotage with KWV

Guests were treated to experience and get to know the Proudly South African wine that is Pinotage at KWV in Paarl. This was a celebration not only of Pinotage Day but of Abraham Perold, the Father of Pinotage who was KWV's Chief Oenologist from 1928 until his death.

Chief Viticulturist, Marco Ventrella and winemaker, Izele van Blerk, led a great tasting of the various Pinotage wines KWV has to offer. With informative explanations, and tastings, of the building blocks of Pinotage, it became evident that the apple does sometimes fall far from the tree. Pinotage is an amazing varietal, showing very different characteristics to those of it's parents, Pinot noir and Cinsaut.

The Abraham Perold Tributum 2013 was a firm favourite among the crowd but there was something for everyone, from the Classic Range to the Mentor's Range.
