This is the 7th year of this competition - hosted by the One&Only Hotel in the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The Reaching for Young Stars competition is run by Showcook.com and puts all the culinary schools in the Western Cape up against each other - with each nominated young chefs and also young wine stewards to be put through their paces and compete against in each other.Friday 10th Nov 2017, saw the Private Hotel School coming out tops in the Wine Steward category - with the Winner being Bianca Schonauer and 2nd place Lanel Marais both hailing from the school in Stellenbosch. Bianca has in fact studied wine-making at Stellenbosch University, so definitely is at an advantage, and the hospitality industry is lucky to have this knowledgeble young woman from Johannesburg in its midst.The Hurst Academy is no stranger to winning. and there was much excitement at their table when their Duo of chefs. Rebecca Odendaal & Nicola Swart won the prestigious competition.I was particularly pleased to see that one of Langa's Eziko's Catering School's students came 2nd in the Bio-Wheat Best Baker Competition...The winners walk off with incredible prizes - Kitchen Aid equipment, ScanPan Knives, working experience in top restaurants in Cape Town, the Winelands and in Cape Cod in the USA and plenty more!Congratulations to this year's winners..
