Old Vine Project launched at De Warenmarkt in Stellenbosch

South Africa is the only country in the world to have a certification seal for old vines that are 35 years and older.
The Old Vine Project has been on the cards for a few years now, and in 2016 the OVP was formalised, with sponsorship from Johann Rupert.
The project has been spear-headed by Andre Morgenthal (ex WOSA) and very ably assisted by viticulturist Rosa Kruger - who seems to have a very good nose for sniffing out old vines! Jaco Engelbrecht also worked on the project recently.
There are now 30 members signed up as members of the project, whose aim is to ensure that not only are these old vines tended but that they are also financially viable.
For members there is a lovely classic plaque which they can erect at their farms, with the very first one awarded to Boekenhoutskloof.
Look out for the seal and be proud to drink some of the nectar - some of which are over 100 years old - viz 'T Voetpad, by Eben Sadie.
