Leaving Cape Town and driving north usually means heading up the N7 and this also means miles and miles of wheat fields. Until of course you see a deep dark patch of organic vineyards on your left - just a few kilometers before Piketberg. This is the home of Org de Rac winery, a green oasis in the middle of the blond wheatfields,So you can't really refuse - their latest offering of their crisp MCC Bubbly & Oysters will be well worth a stop after a dry drive! I really enjoy visiting our clients and always learn a thing or two - and on a day out with our newest member of our team, Jamie-Lee Appolis - we were taken through the cellar by their enthusiastic general manager and cellarmaster Frank Meaker, who proudly and eagerly led us to meet his new Dream Machine - their new picker and sorter. It is harvest time now so the cellar was busy and his dream machine's job is to separate the bunches of grapes from the stems, and then also sorts them - a really efficient process.Cabernet Sauvignon was coming in from the vineyards and the bunches had a few uneven sized grapes but the quality of the juice was good. They also crush grapes from Constantia for other clients, and there was much activity spading out the remains of the grapes.Do take a visit - the headspace which you get from being out in the country is wonderful. They are open Monday to Fridays from 09h00 - 17h00, Saturdays & public holidays 09h30 - 14h00.
