The Distell Inter Hotel Challenge is in its 7th year and there are so many hotels participating now, that the Cape Town launch has to be spread over 3 events! I attended the 2nd one - at the newly refurbished Lanzerac Hotel & Spa in Stellenbosch. Head of Wine at Distell, Niel Groenewald, gave us a heads-up on the state of the South African Wine industry and Wendy Coetzee Adams was her usual charming self running the show.The candidate wine stewards and chefs from The Radisson Blu Waterfront, Tsogo Sun, Southern Sun Waterfront, Lanzerac Hotel & Spa , NH The Lord Charles and Grootbos Private Nature Reserve were full of confidence and we look forward to seeing them being put through their paces during the year.The prizes for the winners are extraordinary - trips overseas to gain valuable experience and perspective and also an incredible internship at Mosaic Restaurant in Pretoria - with Chef Chantel Dartnall who has been nominated Best Female Chef in the world.
