Revitalising with Bouchard Finlayson at Twelve Apostles

2020 has been a difficult year, and attending events seems like an odd thing to do!  But it is hard to refuse an invite to The Twelve Apostles, one of Cape Town's iconic hotels, situated on the Atlantic seaboard between Camps Bay and Llandudno. The Hotel and Spa is perched above the winding road with views across to South America, with the extended Table Mountain range majestically lording over it all. It was a perfect day, and I was envious of the divers who were heading into the ocean as the temperature was over 30 degrees!

Bouchard Finlayson is situated in the Hemel en Aarde Valley, a good 1.5 hours drive from Cape Town, but clearly it was time to bring Mohamed to the Mountain.  Peter Finlayson (our veritable Mohamed) and his team, including winemaker Chris Albrecht, entertained us while we enjoyed matching their wines with the incredible art foodie creations by chef Christo Pretorius.

The sun was beating down and spectacular views accompanied our sipping on some of the best Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs in the country.  I must say I was rather taken by their Aurum Straw Wine which I had not tried before. I believe the grapes are left on the vine to dry for 90 days!  A perfect delicious sweet accompaniment to the dessert of poached nectarine, citrus gel, nectarine mousse, vanilla bean creme with toasted almond crumble.

And what a delight to finally meet the ebullient BLACC Social media guru and educator, Tuanni Price, who is hard at work providing work experiences for PYDA students.

It was very pleasing to see the staff bustling about after such a long lockdown.  The hotel seems to be filling up so kudos to those supporting the struggling hospitality industry.  With probably one of the best views in the world, it is not hard to support such a stunning venue.
So do make your way out there and pretend you're on a ship sailing out into the Atlantic!
