Steenberg's The Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc vertical tasting with Elunda Basson

''No pressure!", says Chris du Toit (CEO of Graham Beck who own Steenberg Vineyards), as Elunda Basson, winemaker, reveals the Steenberg The Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc 2020 - her first release since joining in June 2019.

The team has spent the lockdown wisely, refocusing the brand and working on their strategy to optimise Steenberg's offerings.

And Sauvignon Blanc clearly is a big focus, not just at Steenberg but also across the Constantia Wine Route, where their #SeriousAboutSauvignon campaign is gaining momentum.

Steenberg's Sauvignon Blanc's plantings take up more that 60% of the vineyards and as Elunda says ''The terroir is expressing itself, I am just presenting what there is.''

At the launch last week, we tasted through a number of the older Sauvignon Blancs, (mainly odd year vintages which were delicious) and all had the same golden thread running through them, except perhaps for the 2011, which was the only single block vineyard amongst them.  All other vintages are a blend of the best blocks and for now, the same two seem to be winning the race every year.

The wines were beautifully paired with the steak tartare, pork belly & dessert - a match made in heaven made possible by marketing assistant Chanel Conradie and talented Tryn chef Kerry Kilpin.

The wine is available through all the Steenberg channels, and I suggest that you visit for a tasting to experience the older Sauvignon Blancs

Well done Elunda - a very full, well-rounded, fresh and delicious 2020 Black Swan - we look forward to enjoying it for many years.
