Vinpro held its annual SA Wine Industry Media Day at The Wine Arc in Stellenbosch on Friday 3 June. Organisations that presented at the event alongside Vinpro include WoSA, SAWIS, Winetech, and SAWITU. The two main topics of discussion were the South African wine harvest 2022 and the South African wine industry. The South African wine harvest 2022 was successful overall. The grape crop was of a exceptional quality, although it was smaller, according to Conrad Schutte, consultation service manager of Vinpro. "A cool season and moderate weather conditions in most regions during harvest time slowed down ripening, which gave vines the opportunity to develop stunning flavour and colour in this year’s wine grape crop." The South African wine industry, meanwhile, is recovering after the Covid-19 pandemic. "The South African wine and brandy industry is continuing on its road to recovery and rebuilding, after two years of severe disruptions due to domestic sales bans and global trade barriers," says Vinpro managing director Rico Basson. "While we still face and address numerous challenges, we remain positive and build on milestones along the way."
