Limestone Hill 2025 and The Shard 2024 is two of the newest Chardonnays by De Wetshof Estate that we were privileged to sample at a tasting on Tuesday, 29 July 2025 at Marble Cape Town at the V&A Waterfront. The Shard Chardonnay 2024 is the first South African Chardonnay to be fermented and matured in Wineglobe – a pure glass vessel designed for winemaking. We tasted the following Chardonnays, led by De Wetshof CEO Johann de Wet: De Wetshof Limestone Hill 2025 (unwooded) De Wetshof Calcrete 2024 (unwooded) De Wetshof Bon Vallon 2024 (unwooded) De Wetshof The Shard 2024 (matured in glass) De Wetshof Finesse 2024 (wooded) De Wetshof The Site 2024 (wooded) De Wetshof Bateleur 2024 (wooded) After the wine tasting, we sat down for a delicious three-course lunch. On the menu was a pre-starter salad and bread; a choice of grape ceviche of fresh linefish or beef tartare with picked waterblommetjies as a starter; and a choice of grilled Chalmar sirloin steak or salmon from the Josper oven for mains. Dessert was a pecan nut chocolate brownie with crystallised popped sorghum and popcorn ice cream.
