Thomas and Steffi Curry have been coming to South Africa for years and in fact now live here most of the year. They run CurryWines.de and are responsible for a considerable volume of South African wines being sold in Germany. They are firmly of the belief that we can make a difference in our communities and their confidence led to them starting Lebenslinien in 2017, opening a day care centre for children in the Grabouw township. They then met the passionate educators Selwyn and Maria Koen, the custodians of the NGO Eagle's Nest Learning Foundation, who run the day care and now also run the new after school premises, where children of all ages can be inspired and assisted with their homework and given a good nutritious meal. Funding has been through various means, but predominantly from Thomas and Steffi Curry's NGO Lebenslinien and the support of the Bavarian State Government. 200 children will have their lives changed for the better, exposing them to a plethora of inspiring classes including art, music, IT, sport and more. These are world class spaces, and the new high school aftercare classrooms and activities are nearly complete. The astro-turf soccer field is busy frequently and their food garden (800sqm), developed by Urban Harvest's founder Bob Getz, expects to provide a wonderful selection of fresh organic produce. Much more is being dreamed up and planned, including a large state-of-the-art kitchen, which will not only provide meals but create a space where youngsters can be exposed to cooking and hospitality, providing a platform and foundation from which to jump-start their careers. Congratulations to Steffi, Thomas, Maria and Selwyn and all involved, as this is a world-class facility and look forward to seeing what else develops.
