Opera Trios: Love Triangles, Trysts and Intrigue at Ken Forrester Wines

Love triangles, trysts and intrigue hosted at Ken Forrester Wines on Wednesday, 28 October

An enchanting musical journey through the many faces of love, Opera Trios: Love Triangles, Trysts and Intrigue brought together some of opera’s most captivating stories of passion, romance, jealousy, deception and desire.

Featuring the wonderful voices of soprano Mia-Lana Slier, mezzo-soprano Rosa van der Dussen and baritone Sandile Zitha, the programme offered a delightful collection of celebrated arias and ensembles from the operatic repertoire.

From the sorceress Alcina’s heartbreak in Handel’s Alcina to the comic chaos and romantic entanglements of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Così fan tutte, the evening explored love in all its complicated forms. The journey continued through the flirtations and disguises of Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus, the poignancy of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Yeomen of the Guard, and the irresistible charm of Musetta’s waltz from Puccini’s La Bohème.

Moments of exquisite beauty followed with the enchanting Flower Duet from Delibes’ Lakmé and Valentin’s moving prayer from Gounod’s Faust, before the evening reached its dramatic finale with the fiery passion of Bizet’s Carmen, featuring Carmen’s seductive gypsy song and Escamillo’s exhilarating Toreador Song.

A wonderful celebration of opera’s drama, humour, beauty and passion, the performance was filled with memorable music, expressive storytelling and a generous helping of romantic intrigue.

A photographic collection capturing an evening of beautiful music, wonderful performances and the timeless magic of opera.
